Russia and Vietnam are Negotiating to Supply 2 More "Gepard" Frigates

MOSCOW, -- Vietnam and Russia are in talks to supply additional frigates of Project 3.9 "Gepard" with modernized missile complex, spokesman Zelenodolsk Plant, Gorky Rafis Fatykhov told RIA Novosti on Tuesday.

In 2011, the Russian Federation has put Vietnam two frigates of the project 3.9. Another two "Gepard" for the Vietnamese Navy is currently located at the Zelenodolsk plant, which is being installed on ships armament.

"Negotiations are under way to extend the series of frigates of Project 3.9 "Gepard" for the Vietnamese Navy with advanced weaponry, in particular, with modernized missile complex," - said Fatykhov.

Frigates Project 3.9 "Gepard" is an export modification patrol ships of project 11661, produced at the Zelenodolsk plant in Tatarstan.

The Vietnam People's Navy Gepard-class frigate Dinh Tien Hoang (HQ-011). The first two Gepard frigates are equipped with the most modern anti-ship missiles and the second pair equipped with the most modern anti-submarine devices and missiles. A further two ships were ordered in 2014 to bring the total order up to six vessels. Vietnam and Russia signed a contract on 12 May 2006 worth USD $350 million to build two Gepard-class frigates designed by the Institute ZPKB in Zelenodolsk.
