Philippines to request more US equipment for security

MANILA, -- The Philippines is preparing to submit a request to the US government to procure additional military equipment to boost efforts to secure territory, Peter Paul G Galvez, Philippines Department of National Defense's spokesman told IHS Jane's on 27 April.

Speaking ahead of planned security meetings between the Philippines and the US at the end of April, Galvez said that the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) required a range of platforms but especially those that could boost offshore military capabilities amid increasing Chinese assertiveness in the region.

He confirmed that the Philippine government would as for assistance from the US to fulfil some of these requirements.
