The E-7A provides support to the close air support missions through airborne early warning and control.
The Detachment Commander for the E-7A currently deployed in the Middle East Region explained that the E-7A Wedgetail aircraft is a formidable command and control platform that is able to manage and coordinate coalition forces in the battlespace that are conducting operations in Iraq and Syria.
“A Wedgetail mission on Operation OKRA can range from a 13-hour to a just over a 16-hour flight with 13 crew members on board,” the Detachment Commander said.
“The mission will ordinarily have two air-to-air refuels during its flight, whilst still maintaining command and control to fast-jet and tanker aircraft.
“The Wedgetail crew provide a communications relay between airborne and ground assets, they pass target details to the fast-jet pilots and manage tanker assets within the battlespace making sure they are in the right place at the right time to provide fuel to the aircraft that need it” the Detachment Commander explained. “
The professionalism and highly trained skills of the Wedgetail team are being recognised within the Coalition and together they are making a difference for the people of Iraq and Syria.
