Barracuda stealth boat: speed, versatility and more speed
This stealth boat requires a crew of 4 to 6 with the option of carrying up to 12 people when needed. On a single tank of gas, the Barracuda can travel 230 miles, ripping through waves at over 40 knots thanks to its deep-V hull. Propelling this beast are two 600hp diesel-electric engines, and according to Fox Trot Alpha, “the Barracuda is stated to be able to operate in up to sea state 8 (that’s up to 46 foot swells!) and can maintain operational speeds at sea state 5 (up to 13 foot swells).”
The Barracuda stealth boat is also designed to withstand severe punishment. Thanks to its carbon fiber construction, self righting capabilities and four watertight compartments, this mean momma is built to be as light and durable as possible.
And while the Barracuda sports a sleek and angular exterior build, she’s just as impressive on the inside. The Barracuda’s spacious cabin has been designed to provide near panoramic views. Its ballistic glass windows are massive and can be upgraded to include light-weight panels. The cabin also includes shock absorbing crew seats that can easily be adapted to house multiple workstation orientations.
Guns and stealth
No stealth boat is complete without a variety of available sensors and weapon systems. In fact, the range of customizable weapons, radar sensing equipment and missile systems the Barracuda can handle is truly impressive:
[The Barracuda can be equipped with] a remotely operated, stabilized heavy machine gun and a decoy/smoke grenade launcher turret mounted in a pop-up configuration on the boat’s bow. Presumably, this could be replaced by a grenade launcher or even possibly a light missile system depending on what the buyer wants.
Additionally, manned light machine guns can be mounted on pintle mount’s at the corners of the boat’s stern. All combined, that is a lot of whoop ass for a relatively small boat capable of thrashing through extremely high seas. The Barracuda has so much volume and is so adaptable that it can accommodate a wide variety of sensors, including radar, sonar, FLIR and other missionized electronics suites. Most of the ship’s antennas and emitters can be mounted inside the enclosed mast that sits atop the cabin.
Safehaven Marine claims that due to a very small radar cross-section, the Barracuda can offer stealth mode either in pursuit or apprehend mode. But perhaps most impressive is the patrol boat’s Pursuit Mode, which can conceal all of the boat’s weapons within its carbon fiber frame, revealing them when direct action is needed while still maintaining a low radar profile.
As cool as these features are, it must be noted that the Barracuda is not a fully fledged stealth boat. Currently, the boat does not feature edge alignment and does not feature a thorough attention to removing all small radar reflective elements.
Overall, it’s a truly impressive boat that can also double as a search and rescue craft by day, and a stealthy hunter by night.
