15 delegates attended the two-days meeting from eight ASEAN Navies.The Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) was represented by Lieutenant Colonel (L) Rahaimi bin Haji Abdul Karim, Chief of Staff RBN and Major (L) Mohammad Zouhdy bin Haji Abdul Razak, Fleet Operations Officer, RBN. Upon arrival, the particiating delegations were invited to an ice-breaking session hosted by the Royal Thailand Navy.
The meeting was officiated by Rear Admiral Tanin Likitawong, Deputy Director General Naval Operations Department, followed with the ASEAN anthem. The objective of the WGM was to analyse the AMNEX SOP prior endorsement during the 9th ASEAN Navy Chief Meeting (ANCM) in Myanmar, August 2015. The WGM had also promoted towards ANCM objectives that are to develop confidence and capacity building among ASEAN Navies, as well as to promote knowledge development, mutual respect, trusts and reinforces the need for interoperability in maritime security.
The first ASEAN Multi National Exercise (AMNEX) is plan to be conducted in Thailand which will be coupled with ASEAN Fleet Review in 2017 to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of ASEAN. Stated in the SOP that is AMNEX will be held every three calendar year and designation of host/co-host navy will be rotated and decided during ANCM.
